Eric & Shirley Brand were in horses for over 100 years between them. As Eric would put it, that's just getting old. Eric, a retired Working Cow Horse, Reining and Western trainer, started his horse and pony career at the age of 6 and still has the 1946 "Best Rider" trophy that started his winning ways. Eric and Shirley spent 7 years in Texas and upon their return to Canada in 1999 Eric went into semi retirement and now they both enjoy the their small farm, the two Welsh Pony Stallions and their retired APHA World Champion Stallion SS HYMPRESSIVE COY.
Eric and Shirley then started a small stud farm
just south of Red Deer, Alberta, Canada, where they welcomed mares
of all breeds every spring for foaling and breeding. With the vast
amount of horse knowledge they shared with others, the Brand Farm
was alway a busy place. They also shared their farm with Willy the Aussie,
Penny the Healer, Clint the Manx Cat and Fred the barn cat.
Shirley has a blanket repair shop and
she also manufactures Dog coats, pony & foal blankets as well as
winter riding chaps. One of her many machines are always on the go.
Eric passed away in May of 2010, and Shirley continues to take care of the ponies on the farm and keeps very busy with her sewing. The coffee is always on and visitors are
always welcome.
